Summer time and the knitting is easy...

Oh my goodness, where do I start? As usual, there's plenty happening behind the scenes at Yarn Box. The summer yarns are here so there are new pattern books and yarns online now. It's also time to make way for the autumn/winter ranges so you'll find a selection of special offers on the website.

I've been enjoying knitting the Karen scarf from the Manos Lace pattern collection in completely the wrong yarn. I'm stashbusting so I'm using a lightweight hand-dyed sock yarn instead of laceweight and it's working really well. I can recommend the pattern too, the lace is lovely and drapey and the central part of the scarf makes for relaxing easy knitting. I'm looking forward to wearing it. As  I'm in the mood for fine yarns, I think my next project will be a cardigan in Noro Silk Garden Sock . Just because it's called sock yarn, it doesn't mean you have to knit socks with it!

Hope to see you at Knit Nation!

Knits for little ones

Are you looking for patterns for children under 3 years old? You'll find inspiration in ecobaby by Debbie Bliss. There are 11 designs, for girls and boys, knitted in Eco Baby (which is 100% organic fair trade cotton) including jackets, cardigans, a blanket, dresses and a beanie hat. The patterns fit sizes from 3-6 months to 24-36 months. This pretty bell sleeved cardigan is knitted in Lilac 09 and uses only 4 balls of Eco Baby in for sizes 6-9 months, 9-12 months and 12-24 months.

You can also knit these patterns in Baby Cashmerino which knits to the same tension.

Oriental Inspiration

Chinoiserie is a beautiful collection of 25 handknits by Louisa Harding featuring 2 new yarns; Aimee, a very soft cotton and cashmere mix, and Fleuris , a bamboo and wool blend. Aimee is fine and delicate whilst Fleuris is shiny, drapey and fluid. This sleek top "Lotus" is knitted in Aimee shade 1 and takes 5 x 50g balls to knit in size 12 or 14. You could dress it up with a stright skirt and a belt or dress down with skinny jeans.

Knit Pro Needles

The latest addition to the Yarn Box range of knitting needles and crochet hooks is the fabulous Symfonie range from KnitPro. You can now find Straight Needles (25cm, 30cm, 35cm), DPNs (10cm, 15cm, 20cm), Starter Sets of interchangeable circular needles and double ended crochet hooks on the website.

As a dyed-in-the-wool circular needle knitter, I'm greatly impressed by the interchangable circulars. The needles themselves are sharp and enjoyable to knit with, the joins are smooth and the cables are very flexible. The colours are so pretty too, they seem to go with everything that I knit!
